With the Italian law 242, approved in December 2016, personal use of cannabis (up to 5 grams) and medical use has become legal in Italy. However, there are some important restrictions that must be observed. These concern the importation of certain types of herbs and the percentage of THC contained within them. Letβs take a closer look at what law 242 states, while emphasising that our legislation is rather confusing regarding legal hemp.

Law 242 on Legal Hemp
Law 242 specifies certain characteristics that legal hemp must possess. Firstly, it must have a THC, the active ingredient, that does not exceed 0.2%, or at least remain within the limit of 0.6%. The State Forestry Corps is authorised to carry out random checks. If significant anomalies are found, the authorities may proceed to destroy or seize hemp crops. The law also prohibits imports that do not fall within the European catalogue. Therefore, hybrids, crosses, and Swiss herbs are not permitted. Legal cannabis can also be found at your local tobacconist. It can provide a slight sense of relaxation but no psychotropic effect. Only adults can purchase it.Hemp for Pharmaceutical Use
It is not possible, however, to grow cannabis for pharmaceutical use on your home balcony, or worse, sell it. Why? Because it has a THC content ranging from 5% to 8%. It can only be produced by the military pharmaceutical chemical plant in Florence and contains THC in a percentage ranging from 5% to 8%. The penalty for selling it in establishments other than pharmacies or for personal use is from two to six years in prison. In any case, law 242 and the related regulations are quite confusing, so it is possible that the authorities may not remain indifferent to the possession of light cannabis, which is why one must be very careful. If you are looking for quality hemp, look here
