In the article Does the Dukan Diet Make You Lose Weight Quickly? we tried to understand how this famous diet works and what the pros and cons of the celebrity diet are.
Together with Jessica and Cristiano from Cucina Dulight, let’s now take a closer look at a meal plan developed by its creator, nutritionist Pierre Dukan.
[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]To meet the needs of those asking for a slightly “gentler” dietary/nutritional method, Dr. Dukan opened a second front. He named this new method
nutritional scale, precisely because it consists of seven steps, one for each day of the week.
It starts on a Monday based on foods rich in protein, then adds a food category each day.
But don’t be confused by the name! Your journey will not last just seven days. It should be repeated cyclically, week after week, until the right weight is achieved (which can be calculated for free on the website
www.dietadukan.it).
Let’s see in detail which food category is added on each of the 7 steps of the scale:
1 – MONDAY: PROTEINS
2 – TUESDAY: VEGETABLES
3 – WEDNESDAY: FRUIT
4 – THURSDAY: BREAD
5 – FRIDAY: CHEESES
6 – SATURDAY: A STARCHY MEAL
7 – SUNDAY: A FEAST MEAL
The week is ideally divided into three parts:
1 – The strongly weight-loss part (Monday and Tuesday)
2 – The moderately weight-loss part (Wednesday and Thursday)
The transition Friday, when weight stabilises
3 – The freedom part with common sense (Saturday and Sunday)
Oat bran remains one of the fundamental pillars and should be consumed daily.
The nutritional scale, precisely because it is “more free”, provides very specific doses for each food category introduced (proteins and vegetables aside, which can always be consumed without limitations). All details are explained in the book “
The 7-Day Dukan Diet” or “
The Super Dukan”, both published by Sperling & Kupfer.
We remind you that theoretical study is a step that cannot be skipped before moving on to the practical application of the method.
Once the right weight is achieved, the nutritional scale also includes a consolidation period lasting 10 days for each kilogram lost. In a sense, unlike the classic method, with the 7-day plan you start working immediately on the correct management of all food categories.
In this phase, you will essentially eat the same foods as during the weight loss period, but in different doses and distribution, more freely and consequently more consciously.
At the end of the consolidation, as with the classic method, you enter a definitive stabilisation phase that will last a lifetime. You will be able to eat everything with common sense and, if you have correctly learned the general rules, your results will be lasting.
Advantages
- It allows people with a few pounds to lose to maintain a very varied diet that is likely more balanced than what they are used to.
- Many consider it a not particularly restrictive regime, having immediate access to all food categories.
Disadvantages
- One of the risks is certainly that of relaxing too much on Sunday, failing to return to the protein day on Monday. This would completely nullify any effort.
- The idea that some foods should not be included in a diet and therefore avoiding, for example, bread or fruit even when expressly allowed. This alters the balance of the method and leads to long-term failure.
- Weight loss is less rapid compared to the classic method, and this could demoralise those following the path.
- Having access to all food categories, there is a real risk of not fully understanding the differences between them in terms of nutritional intake.

Which method to choose?
Pierre Dukan identifies two profiles of people who might follow one regime more successfully than the other. One of our upcoming articles will be dedicated to this topic. We anticipate that there is no standard answer valid for everyone, as the choice of method is strictly personal, based on individual experiences, needs, and lifestyle.
There is good news: once you choose one of the two methods, you won’t find yourself in a cage with no exit! You just need to turn a key, open the door, and switch from the classic to the seven-day method, or vice versa.
If our article has piqued your curiosity, we reveal the true secret to successfully embarking on this dietary regime: READING THE BOOK
The 7-Day Dukan Diet. Excluding the recipes, it is a short manual of about 150 pages that will provide you with all the theoretical and practical tools to get started.
