The supermetabolism diet, created by nutritionist Haylie Pomroy and currently very popular in the film industry, is based on the premise that foods, or at least some of them, have fat-burning properties that, if used correctly, lead to an acceleration of metabolism and a consequent rapid weight loss. It is said that one can lose 10 kilos in a month.
The nutritional programme of the supermetabolism diet is also used in specialised centres to combat diabetes and other metabolic diseases, as well as to reduce levels of bad cholesterol and stabilise blood sugar levels. These benefits, like weight loss, occur very quickly.
Very popular in the film industry
The supermetabolism diet lasts only 28 days and is divided into three phases that alternate every two to three days, following weekly cycles. Each phase corresponds to the consumption of different foods. The supermetabolism diet also imposes a specific lifestyle that includes a meal every two or three hours, leading to a total of 5 meals a day, an emphasis on having breakfast as soon as you wake up, and the consumption of 30 cl of water for each kilogram of body weight (about one and a half litres for 50 kilograms). Additionally, it is important to give preference to organic foods, engage in physical activity at least 3 times a week, and, above all, it is essential to adhere to the three phases of the programme.
The dietary regimen lasts only 28 days
During the first phase, the diet is followed on Monday and Tuesday, allowing ample room for fruits, vegetables, grains, and proteins. The day starts with a breakfast of fruit and grains, followed by a fruit snack in the morning, and for lunch and dinner, a portion of grains is consumed followed by proteins and plenty of vegetables.

On Wednesday and Thursday, the second phase begins, where vegetables and proteins dominate, preferably boiled, grilled, or stewed. As in the first phase, it is mandatory to avoid fats. The menu during this part of the week consists of a breakfast with low-fat yogurt and fruit, and snacks with egg white omelettes. For lunch and dinner, vegetables are served alongside meat, lean cold cuts, or fish.
- The third phase, finally, should be followed from Friday through the weekend. It involves reintroducing healthy fats, combined with whole grains, proteins, and low glycemic index fruits. For breakfast, mid-morning, and snacks, fruit-based snacks are included, while for lunch and dinner, one can opt for brown rice, quinoa, and oats followed by lean meat or fish and vegetables. In reality, there is also a phase 4, the maintenance phase, which is based on three points:
- One food of choice from the "forbidden" list, such as bread, coffee, or refined sugars, can be reintroduced into the diet;
- Snacks can include both proteins, fats, and vegetables, as well as just proteins or fruit;
- For the other meals of the day, the dietary scheme is less rigid, and it is allowed to eat what you prefer, moving between phases.
